When I started my painting carrier, I concentrated on watercolor landscapes. All of my work was inspired by places I remembered from growing up to vacations with family. However after surviving a heart attack in 2005 I seemed to gain new insight into those remembered places. Who we are as a person is due in part to our life experiences. It was at this point that I felt the need to express myself on a more personal level. I started to explore abstract expressionism in an effort to further understand my emotions and find a more personal way to express them.
My work today is an exercise in exploring my relationship with all the various experiences that have influenced my life. The inspiration for my work comes from not only my observations of how we interact with one another, but also the less obvious things that we experience in day to day living. The lyrics to a song, a moving inspirational message and the memories of all the good and not so good aspects of my life.
Trying to maintain a working relationship with society, a peaceful and harmonious existence with nature and remembering the events that have influenced me as a person and as an artist can be a never ending journey.
As in life, my work is composed of many layers that are added to then taken away. This interaction of colors and textures is in many ways a reflection of how I view my existence in a constantly changing world.
